Narkaus

Snow construction and event, December 2005 - April 2006

The village of Narkaus is situated about 35 km from the city of Rovaniemi. It has about 180 inhabitants.

The village society of Narkaus-Kämä realized its Snow Magic project in the period December 16th 2005-April 1st 2006.

The aim of the project was reached when it comes to the participation to make the people in the village to work together. Especially the Children’s Winter Olympics snow event was a success despite the bad weather.

The construction work began in December. The people of the village gathered to work every Sunday.

Most of the constructions were planned for children to act as a playground, there was for example a snow castle. The playground was very popular because it was located in the centre of village, by the road.

The snow event took place on April 1st 2006 and it was organized in co-operation with the village society and the local sport club.

The event included skiing competitions, snow shoe competitions, sliding, open fires etc.

The snow castle was a great gathering place for the event and the snow constructions created a good place for the competitions. Altogether there were about 60 visitors in the event.
